Wake Electric is a medium-sized rural electric cooperative that runs from the northern suburbs of Raleigh, North Carolina to the southern border of Virginia. Now providing services to over 35,000 members (consumers), Wake Electric has experienced a significant amount of growth over the last decade. The utility has also experienced a significant improvement in both broadband access and cellular services which adds some benefit to the midsized utility striving to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies in the electric utility industry – building the “Smart Grid.”
